Austin-based Design | Renovate Builder sees growth in local remodeling market
May 17, 2012 (Austin, Texas) – Watermark & Company, a Design | Renovate Builder, announced today that its renovation of Shade Tree Recording Studio in South Austin was named the winner of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) 2012 Contractor of the Year Award (CotY) for Home Theater & Media Rooms Under $150,000. Along the way to the national awards, this renovation was also named Home Theater & Media Rooms Under $150,000 at the regional level and Best Residential Interior Specialty by the Austin chapter of NARI.
Projects entered in the CotY Awards were completed between July 1, 2010, and November 30, 2011, and were not submitted in prior NARI National contests. An impartial panel of judges, who are experts within the industry and associated fields, selected winners based on each entrant’s binders, which include “before and after” photography and project descriptions. Judging focused on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.
To be considered for a CotY Award, a company must be a NARI member in good standing. The entries in this year’s competition totaled $90 million worth of remodeling projects. NARI members represent an elite group of the approximately 800,000 companies and individuals in the U.S. identifying themselves as remodelers.
“We are deeply honored to receive this prestigious award for our work,” said Watermark & Company CEO Michael Paclik, Jr., who is a NARI Certified Remodeler and graduate of the Construction Science program of the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University. “When I founded Watermark & Company in 2004, it was my goal to provide our clients with renovated spaces that reflect their design aesthetics. The Shade Tree Recording Studio is a fine example of how we do just that.”
“Austin is a great place to be a remodeler. Our city is consistently named among the top markets for remodeling by the lead organizations and publications in our industry. We ranked #4 – behind Houston, Minneapolis, and Dallas – in the study produced just this January by Remodeling Magazine. Our own numbers show that the market for home renovation in Austin hasn’t been this active since 2008. In addition to our current project load being quite robust, we had a strong turnout to see the remodeled homes we placed on the Home Builder’s Association of Greater Austin Tour of Homes that took place over Mother’s Day weekend. The economy isn’t necessarily conducive to new home purchases, but people are clearly willing to renovate their existing homes.”
According to NARI, homeowners are estimated to spend a total of $113.6 billion on home improvements in the U.S. through the third quarter of 2012.
The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) is the only trade association dedicated solely to the remodeling industry. The Association, which represents 7,000 member companies nationwide- comprised of 63,000 remodeling contractors is “The Voice of the Remodeling Industry.” To learn more about membership, visit www.NARI.org or contact national headquarters, based in Des Plaines, Ill., at (847) 298-9200.
